In a far cry from her role as Lynette in "
Desperate Housewives",
Felicity Huffman plays Bree, a male-to-female transsexual, already passing as a woman, who is days away from what she has been dreaming about her whole life the completion of her gender re-assignment surgery which will finally remove the piece of muscle, the male organ, she is disgusted with. With an array of scarves consistently wrapped around her neck to hide her Adam's apple, Bree's life is thrown off-course when a teenage run-away Toby, (played by the handsome Kevin Zegers), contacts her out of the blue looking for his biological father. Toby's in trouble, his mother is dead and he's been arrested and holed up in a detention centre in New York City for hustling and drug-runnning. Realizing that Toby is her son (she unknowingly fathered back when in the days when she was male), Bree travels to New York and bails out Toby under the pretense that she's a Christian missionary worker.

Clueless that Bree was a he, or that he's her son, Toby sets out with Bree on a road trip to LA that is chock full of humor, and discovery. Upbeat, intelligent and thoughtful, "
Transamerica", written and directed by Duncan Tucker, is a wonderful poignant film that searches for identity, leads to a touching discovery, re-unites familial bonds and champions remaining true to who you really think you are.
A brave casting choice, Huffman, a deserving winner of the Best Actress Award at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival is astonishing. Her voice, her mannerisms, her physical way of walking in heels, even the way she crosses her legs in her long skirt make you check yourself. We are watching a woman play a man who is in the final stages of transitioning to a woman. Winner of the Frame line/San Francisco Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Award for Audience Favorite Feature 2005. Writer-Director Duncan Tucker and Producer Sebastian Dungan will attend the screening and answer questions after this special fundraising gala screening to benefit Care Resource and MGLFF - get the dish on Felicity's amazing transformation!
