Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (MGLFF) presents its Monthly Screening for August, with one FREE drink at SoBe Social Club after-party for all ticketholders (see below for details):
A coming-out film - but with a new twist: the writer-director of DORIAN BLUES is completely heterosexual! Tennyson Bardwell, who also co-produced the film with his wife, Mary-Beth Taylor Bardwell, wrote and directed DORIAN BLUES as a homage to "the tower of strength" that was his gay best friend from college - a man he was so close that they were "like brothers".
Bardwell has taken this key relationship from his youth and fictionalized it in DORIAN BLUES, the story of brothers Nicky and Dorian Lagatos.
Elder brother Nicky (Lee Coco), is tall, gorgeous and an all-star quarterback with girls literally tumbling into his arms. He shares a room and a bond with his "moody" introverted younger brother Dorian (Michael McMillian, from the WB's "What I Like About You") who is struggling with coming out as gay. Nicky is the first person Dorian tells about his sexuality, and Nicky becomes Dorian's instant defender - to small-town toughs and to their right-wing bully of a father.
But eventually Dorian must learn to stand on his own. In doing so, Dorian learns what it takes to be a man - and how to give strength back to his older brother when Nicky's "perfect" life is shattered by his own encounters with life on life's terms.
Tennyson Bardwell, a gifted writer, deftly blends an inspired mix of witty slapstick and wrenching drama in DORIAN BLUES his feature film debut. More importantly, his own personal experience of a straight jock loving and protecting his gay "brother" helps give DORIAN BLUES the distinction of an emotionallyauthentic journey.
ONE NIGHT ONLY!
After the film, all Dorian Blues ticket holders can hold on to their ticket stub for one FREE drink at the Dorian Blues after-party at the Marlin Hotel's newly finished REX RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE at 12th & Collins, in partnership with Edison Farrow's SoBe Social Club Martini Tuesdays. Check out the new digs! All the silver is GONE!
