SAY UNCLE

Directed by Peter Paige

For 5 seasons of the cable TV series Queer As Folk, actor Peter Paige delighted us as the flamboyant and funny Emmett Honeycutt. Paige’s first major salvo post-QAF is a giant leap from that persona, as writer/director/star of an unexpectedly complex and edgy feature film. Paige casts himself as Paul, an artist who is happiest in the company of children. Yet the extremes to which he follows his bliss – and ignores prevailing social mores – do not sit well with certain mothers in his community. One of them (Kathy Najimy, of Sister Act fame, in a superb performance), fears the innocent but eccentric Paul is in fact a pedophile and mounts a campaign against him which gains in force as it gains in shared hysteria. Paul is so oblivious to the uproar he even finds himself attending one of the rallies that are targeting him – which is to say that even as it walks a very fine line, Say Uncle is unmistakably a unique comedy. Paige’s film is a cunning surprise, a rich satire of American conservative reactionism that continues to stymie socio-political equality for today’s GLBT population.

Writer/director/star Peter Paige will attend the screening and discuss the film with the audience.

Peter Paige was born in Connecticut in 1969 and graduated from Boston University’s School of Theater Arts. He is best known for his role as Emmett Honeycutt on the hugely popular Showtime series, Queer As Folk (2000-2005). His television guest roles include Suddenly Susan,“Caroline in the City, Will & Grace and a recent recurring guest spot on Related. An experienced playwright, Paige makes his film directorial debut with Say Uncle.
