LOVING ANNABELLE

Directed by Katherine Brooks

In the tradition of the lesbian cult classic Mädchen in Uniform comes a steamy new boarding-school romance destined to set hearts on fire. The newest student at this prestigious all-girls’ Catholic academy is Annabelle (Erin Kelly), the rebellious daughter of a senator who’s too busy to parent. Underneath her bad-girl persona, Annabelle hungers for love, and it doesn’t take long for her to crush out on everyone’s favorite English teacher, Simone (Diane Gaidry). In class, Annabelle titillates the other girls with her boldly sexual analysis of love poems, and sends Simone into a quiver of barely-concealed arousal. Despite her hetero façade, it turns out, Simone has more than a little lesbianism in her past. The chemistry between student and teacher is undeniable and electric, but lurking underneath is an ever-present fear of breaking the ultimate taboo; after all, Annabelle is 17 and Simone is 35. Writer/director Katherine Brooks doesn’t cast easy judgment on this romance, but nor does she ignore its danger or consequences. In Gaidry’s stunning performance, Simone’s every moment of unbridled passion is accompanied by the weight of guilt and aching self-doubt. Rounding out the ensemble is a seasoned cast that includes Laura Breckenridge (star of WB’s new series, Related) and none other than Marla Maples! Filmed on location in lush Northern California, Loving Annabelle has the sleek cinematography of a big-budget film. It’s a daring feature, emotionally astute and undeniably erotic.

Director Katherine Brooks will attend the screening to discuss the film with the audience.
