The mainstreaming of gay male culture gets a distinctly Italian spin in this fast-paced comedy of errors. Hopelessly hetero Domenico is 25, handsome....and out of a job. After screwing up a job interview to be an assistant to bodacious, divinely bitchy TV star Miranda (think of a cross between Anna Nicole Smith and fashion queen Donatella Versace), the hapless charmer abandons all hope for success. Enter theater director Amedeo, middle-aged, cultured....and gay as a goose. The way to get the job, he confides, is by camping it up and pretending to be a finocchio (that's colloquial slang for you know what). Domenico swishes and sashays his way into the life of the buxom diva, but he quickly finds out that beneath all the glitz and glamour lies a lonely woman whose temper tantrums barely conceal a plea for intimacy. Will Domenico's growing attraction to this larger-than-life gay magnet break through her shell? Stage and television veteran Marco Mattolini, best known for bringing gay-themed plays like Bent and Kiss of the Spider Woman to his native country, returns to the big screen after a 16-year absence, and this time he takes no prisoners. His uncanny sense of timing, combined with a savvy, admirably unsentimental approach to his characters, result in a smashingly entertaining look at the cult of celebrity.
