Artistic superman David is hunting about for his lost muse by masquerading as a mild-mannered waiter in scarily ordinary Winnipeg, Manitoba. He soon finds it in Matt, the hunky, "straight" husband of fiercely fresh - faced Violet, who owns the diner where David schelps home cooking to the good citizens of the isolated Canadian metropolis. Matt, while deeply in love with his strong, attractive wife, finds himself inexplicably embarking on a wild gay love affair that steadily increases (exponentially!) in intensity. Even David, jaded from the years of romantic disappointments gay life can sometimes offer, finds himself bizarrely struggling to hide his new love's identity from his HIV+ pre-op transexual roommate Shannon and hard-boiled newspaper columnist best friend Kryla.

In his feature film directorial debut, writer Brad Fraser ("Love and Human Remains") adapts his 1994 play "Poor Superman" to the screen with a startlingly erotic pulp fiction frankness. Lurking underneath the striking, bold comic book colors, the snappy pacing and the crackling zingers of Fraser's breakneck dialogue is a compelling portrait of a man approaching the zenith of his adventure on earth: David, while breaking through his artistic block, also breaks through his intimacy barrier - with himself. While bedding the hot macho straight guy may be a near-universal gay male fantasy, Leaving Metropolis explores the ache of those messy, uncontrollable feelings that take over after the heat-of-the-moment libidinous instincts have been satisfied.

Director Brad Fraser will be in attendance and discuss his work with the audience.
