Metrosexuality
Metrosexuality
Directed by Rikki Beadle-Blair
United Kingdom
SOUTH FLORIDA PREMIERE

Welcome back to the wild world of pansexual, multicultural, intergenerational Notting Hill, London, brainchild of the slyly subversive writer/director/actor Rikki Beadle Blair. Produced for Channel 4 Television in the U.K., Metrosexuality has been as controversial as it has been entertaining wherever it has screened.

The story continues as straight teen Kwame won't give up on the idea of a nuclear family; of course, to Kwame, that means him and his two gay dads, back together again. But dad Jordan's relationship with his new boyfriend looks serious, that full-body rubber suit the guy wears when he's working notwithstanding. And dad Max, who's trying desperately to be young, plays the field with a personal ad, inadvertently snaring the wrong guy. Meanwhile, bisexuality makes a surprising appearance when the old boyfriend of Max's lesbian sister shows up and a commitment-phobic bouncer with a Mohawk seduces a straight guy just to prove he's still a sexual outlaw. But lest you think it's just an exercise in cool, Beadle-Blair's devoted an entire tender episode to Mother's Day, in which Max, who's probably the best mum of all, might even find a boyfriend. With its snappy editing and exuberant colors, not to mention the hot cast and those delicious fantasy-musical numbers, Metrosexuality raises the bar on what we can expect from "gay TV." This is a wackily unique vision of the new millennium family, in all its dazzling diversity.

Rikki Beadle-Blair will attend the screening and discuss his work with the audience.

Lesbians and gay men don't always speak the same language, and the misunderstandings can be both funny and nasty.
