Bob and Rose have come out of the closet. They are now officially - is the world ready for this? - a gay man and a straight woman in love. Russell T. Davies, creator of Queer As Folk, continues his witty and engaging tour through the emotional lives of a group of sharply drawn Manchester thirty-somethings grappling with sex and love in the 21st century. The romance stays picture-perfect for exactly five seconds, at which point the real world comes crashing in again. Bob's straight female co-worker and his former boyfriend will stop at nothing to prove he's really 100% gay after all, and Bob's own desires and confusion don't help things a bit. In one hysterical scene, his way-too-enthusiastic mom handcuffs herself to a city bus crying "He's a gay man with a straight girlfriend, and that's equality!" and ends up on the nightly news, with comic consequences. And both sets of parents' marriages crumble even as Bob and Rose try to find a way to stay together. The acting here is British-school perfect from the largest to the smallest roles, but the biggest star here is Davies' script, a wonderfully conceived gem that draws us in and keeps us glued to our seats to the very end. This is television at its absolute best, a subtle exploration of ever-shifting identities, a refreshing challenge to all of those who tell us who we can and cannot love.

Russell T. Davies will attend the screening and discuss his work with the audience.
